Batsheva Ensemble: Tabula Rasa / Lost Cause

On Thursday, May 3, Dance Jerusalem went to the Jerusalem Theater to see a performance by the Batsheva Ensemble. The program included Ohad Naharin’s Tabula Rasa (1986) and Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar’s Lost Cause (2010).

We’re Dancing at Suzanne Dellal

In true Israeli fashion, I’m not sure what the full program is just yet, and how much of it I’m in, but the details will fall into place before the curtain goes up at least. I kid, I kid. I do know that the Jerusalem Academy Dance Ensemble is performing, along with some of the best student works from the Gertrud Kraus choreography competition. But please, if you’re in the Tel Aviv area, check out what the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance is up to. We’re performing at the Suzanne Dellal Center, Israel’s main stage! June 12 at 21:00.

My Experience as Told by Natalie Portman

Does anyone remember the time we saw Natalie Portman at The Joyce Theater when we went to see Batsheva Dance Comapny perform Project 5? She was just hanging out with Ohad Naharin. No big. It’s funny how small the world is, or how small you can make it seem when you make funny connections.

Anyway, Natalie Portman knows exactly how I feel here in Jerusalem when I’m battling my own perceptions of physical and conceptual reality, in terms of moving the body (especially in Gaga class) and approaching choreography (especially in Melanie’s class). It’s about breaking habits and releasing yourself from mental and physical (and emotional?) atrophy.
